ABOUT ME
About Me
😀 I’m a professional photographer, videographer, and YouTuber who has been working in the creative industry since 2005. Photography especially has always been a huge part of my life, and even after all these years I still genuinely love creating 📸 photos and telling stories through cameras, lighting, sound, and atmosphere. I got hooked on photography when I was a kid and never really stopped loving it. If you’re interested in photography and want to learn more about the craft check out my other YouTube channel VaskoObscura or check out some tutorials at vaskoobscura.com
One of my biggest passions outside of modern camera gear is collecting and experimenting with vintage lenses. There’s something special about the unique character and nostalgic look that old glass can create. In the future, I’d love to experiment with filming more Urban Windows rain ambience videos using vintage lenses to create an even more cinematic and nostalgic atmosphere, although vintage lenses definitely weren’t designed for thunderstorms and heavy rain.
Urban Windows has been really exciting for me because it’s allowed me to do what I love to do just in a a new way. Whether I’m working on photography projects, filming videos, or recording urban ambience and sleep sounds, creating with a camera has always been at the center of what I do. I can’t imagine not creating something. I think I would go nuts if I stopped making things.
My Urban Windows Story
I work full-time as a photographer and videographer, and I also run a photography and filmmaking YouTube channel called Vasko Obscura. As a creative person, I found that my mind was constantly racing with ideas, especially while working on large projects. A lot of nights it became difficult to fully shut my brain off and fall asleep, and the next day I’d end up paying the price by trying to work while exhausted.
Over time, I realized that the sound of rain, distant street traffic, and nighttime city ambience helped calm my mind and made it much easier to sleep. Nature sounds are great too but I found that I just prefered more urban sounds. Using my background in video production and audio recording, I started creating my own relaxing rain ambience and urban sleep sound videos to listen to at night. I originally uploaded them to YouTube simply so I could access them anywhere, whether I was at home, staying overnight on a location shoot, or traveling for work.
Back when the channel first started, I was probably responsible for 90% of the views myself. Over time though, the Urban Windows community slowly started to grow. I realized I wasn’t the only person who found comfort in the relaxing sound of rain outside the window and distant city traffic at night. That in itself was kind of cool. People always looked at me funny when I said I like the sounds of street traffic for falling asleep. lol.
To this day, I still use my own videos to help me relax and fall asleep. As the community has grown, I’ve put more time and energy into creating more rain ambience, thunderstorm and street traffic and other urban atmosphere videos. As the subscribers grow i’m excited to share more creations with you all.
New Urban Windows videos go live every Sunday at 6PM Eastern Standard Time (EST), and sometimes I’ll even post bonus videos during the week. I’ve really been enjoying the process of getting out there, recording new storms and city ambience, editing the videos, and watching this relaxing little corner of the internet continue to grow.
