Submit Your Rain Videos

How would like to see rain videos from your part of the world on Urban Windows?

I had one of those moments the other day when you get excited about an idea and it’s all you can think about all day long. Up until this point I have been working solo recording urban rain sounds in my part of the world. BUT. . . what if some of my subscribers wanted to record some urban rain sounds from their part of the world? I mean how cool would it be to create a diverse collection of urban rain and street traffic sounds from different places around the globe? Would that be cool or what?

That Idea got me really excited. So I’m making this page for Subscribers to the Urban Windows channel who want to contribute some rain videos content to the channel. A little sound of home you can share with the community and listen to yourself.

THe Idea is pretty simple

I want to keep things simple. No fancy cameras or recording equipment needed. Of course if you have a camera and a mic that would be best but if all you have is a smartphone that can shoot in 4k than that’s cool. Setup your kit on a tripod so there is no shaking and record 15-20min of video and send it to me. I have a background in video production so i’ll do my best to clean up the audio and video and turn it into an awesome sleep sounds video. You can share a cool scene from your city with the rest of us.

Requirements:

Ownership Requirements: First and foremost you have to be the one who recorded the video and thus you legally own the video and can grant me the right to use the video.

Video Requirements: 4k, 24 frames per second.

Audio Requirements: Audio recordings from modern phones should be good. Try to be aware of noises around you. Quick sounds like cars honking their horns I can edit out but if there is an air-conditioner or TV running close by those sounds make the video unusable. Try to setup your phone or camera in a quiet place where all you hear are the sounds of rain and street traffic or whatever sounds you are trying to record.

Time Requirements:Again let’s keep things simple. A minimum length for a recording can be 15 minutes and 20 to 25 minutes on the long end.

🌩️ Warning 🌩️

Disclaimer: Please remember that thunderstorms can be dangerous. Lightning strikes can be deadly, and heavy rain can make it difficult for drivers to see clearly. If you’re out recording content in stormy weather, always stay aware of your surroundings and use good judgment. If something feels unsafe, trust your instincts and move to safety. 🡢 I’ve put together safety guide with a few pro tips for you.

The Process

  • I’m going to start this off as a pilot project with a few select subscribers to get a feel for how this process works and then if all goes well I want to open up the opportunity to all my Subscribers.

  • Recording equipment: It doesn’t matter if you’re using your phone or if you have a camera and mic. Let’s just give it a go and see what you can create. I have a background in video production so I’m happy to help you get your phone or camera setup if needed.

  • I’m going to setup a Google drive where you can upload your recordings to make things simple. You can upload content you create from your phone or computer which makes things really easy.

  • Because the Urban Windows channel is monetized I think it’s only fair to pay contributors for content that is published on the channel. I averaged out what videos typically earn over a year and came up with these numbers: Audio only content typically makes between $5 to $15 in their first year before views plateau and videos make between $10 to $40 in their first year before views plateau. So I think a fair place to start is: $10 for audio only files and $20 for videos. Of course as the channel grows and overall views increase these numbers will go up. The other thing worth keeping in mind is that sometimes videos take off and don’t plateau. They see steady growth over a long time. I have a few videos that just keep going and if that happens to content that you contributed to the channel I want to give you a percentage of what that content earns. I’m still working out how to do it but I’m thinking 40% of total revenue earned by videos that rank in my top 10 most viewed videos over a year.

  • This is all just a pilot project for now and I’ll refine things as we go but for now this is the basic idea :)

What I’m Looking For

As you know the channel is all about urban soundscapes shot on rainy nights so I’m open to anything that fits into those categories.

  • Rain storm recorded from your window at night

  • Street view recording of a rainy street

  • High angle view shot from a balcony overlooking the city

  • Any scene of rain in an urban area

Let’s Get Started
