Submit Your Rain Videos

How would you like to see rain videos on Urban Windows? (youtube)

I had one of those moments the other day when you get excited about an idea and it's all you can think about. Up until now, I've been working solo, recording urban rain sounds in my part of the world. BUT... what if some of my subscribers wanted to record urban rain sounds from their part of the world? I started imagining what that might look like. Rain falling outside an apartment window in Tokyo. A thunderstorm rolling through a neighbourhood in Texas. Buses rattling through a rainy night in Paris. Wet city streets in London, Seoul, Amsterdam, or somewhere I've never even heard of before. How cool would it be if, together, we could build a collection of authentic urban rain and city soundscapes from all around the world?

That idea got me really excited. Urban Windows has always been about capturing the sounds of real places and real moments. Now I'm inviting members of the community to help grow that collection by sharing a little piece of home with the rest of the Urban Windows audience.

So I created this page for subscribers who would like to contribute rain videos and urban ambience recordings to the channel. Whether it's a rainy street outside your apartment, a thunderstorm from your balcony, or the sound of traffic moving through your city on a wet night, I'd love to see what you capture.

Who knows? Your recording might become someone's favourite sleep sound.

THe Idea is pretty simple

I want to keep things simple. No fancy cameras or recording equipment needed. Of course if you have a camera and a mic that would be best but if all you have is a smartphone that can shoot in 4k, than that’s cool. Setup your device on a tripod/stable platform, so there is no shaking, record 15-20min of video and send it to me. I have a background in video production so i’ll do my best to clean up the audio/video and turn it into an awesome sleep sounds video. You can share a cool scene from your city with the rest of us.

Requirements:

Ownership Requirements: First and foremost you have to be the one who recorded the audio and video (thus you legally own the video you created) and can grant me the rights to use the video.

Video Requirements: 4k, 24 frames per second is prefered. If all you can do is 1080p that’s ok to.

Audio Requirements: Audio recordings from modern phones should be good. Try to be aware of noises around you. Quick sounds like cars honking their horns I can edit out, but if there is an air-conditioner or TV running close by those sounds make the video unusable. Try to setup your phone or camera in a quiet place where all you hear are the sounds of rain and street traffic or whatever sounds you are trying to record.

Time Requirements:Again let’s keep things simple. A minimum length for a recording can be 15 minutes and 20 to 25 minutes on the long end.

🌩️ Warning 🌩️

Disclaimer: Please remember that thunderstorms can be dangerous. Lightning strikes can be deadly, and heavy rain can make it difficult for drivers to see clearly. If you’re out recording content in stormy weather, always stay aware of your surroundings and use good judgment. If something feels unsafe, trust your instincts and move to safety. 🡢 I’ve put together safety guide with a few pro tips for you.

The Process

  • I’m going to start this off as a pilot project with a few select subscribers to get a feel for how this process works and then if all goes well I want to open up the opportunity to all my Subscribers.

  • Recording equipment: It doesn’t matter if you’re using your phone or if you have a camera and mic. Let’s just give it a go and see what you can create. I have a background in video production so I’m happy to help you get your phone or camera setup if needed (video/audio settings).

  • I’m going to setup a Google drive where you can upload your recordings to make things simple. You can upload content you create from your phone or computer which makes things really easy.

  • This is all just a pilot project for now and I’ll refine things as we go but for now this is the basic idea :)

What's In It For Contributors?

That's a great question.

First, you'll have the opportunity to share the unique sounds and atmosphere of your city with the Urban Windows audience. Whether it's rain falling outside your apartment window, traffic moving through a wet downtown street, or a quiet thunderstorm rolling through your neighborhood, your recording could help someone relax, focus, or fall asleep.

Second, I license all accepted submissions, which means you'll be paid for any content that is selected for use on the channel.

Third, you'll receive credit for your contribution. If you'd like, I can include your name, YouTube channel, website, or social media links in the video description and on the Urban Windows website. Prefer to remain anonymous? That's completely fine too. The choice is entirely yours.

Perhaps the biggest reward is becoming part of a growing global collection of authentic urban rain soundscapes. Years from now, you'll be able to revisit your recording and remember the sights and sounds of your corner of the world while sharing that experience with thousands of listeners. If you're interested in contributing to Urban Windows, fill out the form below and we'll discuss the details.
